The Model

Introduced at the 1978 Geneva Motor Show, the Countach LP400 S was the first major evolution of Lamborghini’s landmark mid engined supercar. Where the original LP400 had established the Countach as one of the most visually dramatic road cars ever produced, the LP400 S took that formula further with a significantly more aggressive stance, driven primarily by the adoption of wide Pirelli P7 tyres, the largest fitted to any road car at the time. Accommodating them required flared wheel arches front and rear, a redesigned front spoiler, and a complete reworking of the suspension geometry by Giampaolo Dallara, replacing the original wishbone layout with a parallel link system paired with larger ATE brake discs and cast magnesium Campagnolo wheels. The result was a car that looked wider, lower, and more purposeful than the LP400 it sat alongside in the range.
